Getting Started with Aegis
Aegis is an all-in-one Discord bot covering moderation, automod, leveling, economy, tickets, logging, and more โ all configurable through a web dashboard.
Adding Aegis to Your Server
Click Add to Server on the Aegis homepage. You'll need Administrator permission in the target server to invite it.
Once added, Aegis automatically sets up its database entry for your server. No setup commands are required โ every feature is configured through the dashboard, and everything works with sensible defaults from the moment it joins.
Most features are disabled by default until you turn them on in the dashboard (leveling, economy, tickets, starboard, giveaways, verification, raid defense, anti-scam, automod, QOTD, counting). Moderation commands, staff notes, and logging work immediately with no setup.
Opening the Dashboard
Go to aegisdashboard.xyz and click Dashboard. Log in with Discord and select your server. You'll only see servers where:
- You're the server owner, or
- You have Discord's Administrator or Manage Server permission, or
- You hold a role assigned as an Admin Role in Aegis's Roles settings, and the server has Dashboard Access turned on for Aegis roles
Bot Permissions
Aegis requests Administrator on invite so every feature works without troubleshooting individual permissions later. If you prefer a restricted setup, here's roughly what each area actually needs:
| Feature | Required Permissions |
|---|---|
| Moderation | Kick Members, Ban Members, Moderate Members (timeout), Manage Roles |
| AutoMod / Anti-Scam | Manage Messages, Manage Server (native AutoMod rules), Read Message History |
| Logging | View Audit Log, Send Messages/Embed Links in log channels |
| Tickets | Manage Channels, Manage Roles, Attach Files |
| Game Server Groups | Manage Roles, Manage Channels |
| Leveling | Send Messages, Manage Roles (for level-up role rewards) |
| Temp Voice | Manage Channels, Move Members, Connect |
| Mute Role | Manage Roles, Manage Channels (to apply per-channel overwrites) |
| Welcome / Leave / Birthdays / QOTD | Send Messages, Embed Links in the configured channels |
| Bot Appearance | Change Nickname (for per-server nickname/avatar) |
Quick Setup Guide
A sensible order for getting a new server fully set up:
- Roles โ set your Mod Role(s) and Admin Role(s) so staff can use gated commands and (optionally) reach the dashboard
- Logging โ pick a Default Log Channel so you have an audit trail from day one, then route specific events to their own channels if you want
- AutoMod โ enable the filters that fit your community (bad words, spam, links, invites, caps, mass mentions)
- Welcome โ set a welcome channel/message so new members are greeted
- Turn on any additional features as needed โ Leveling, Economy, Tickets, etc. all default to off
Slash Commands
Aegis uses Discord slash commands exclusively โ type / in any channel to see what's available. See the full Command Reference for every command, its options, and which tier can run it.
Most configuration happens on the dashboard, not through commands. Slash commands are for actions members and staff take day-to-day โ moderating, checking rank/balance, opening tickets, playing games, and so on.
Permission Tiers
Aegis has its own lightweight permission system, separate from Discord's own permissions, used to gate moderation-adjacent commands:
- Admin โ the server owner, anyone with Discord's Administrator permission, or anyone holding a role you've added to the Admin Roles list. Can run everything, including Admin-tier commands (
/ban,/unban,/purge). - Mod โ anyone holding a role added to the Mod Roles list. Can run Mod-tier commands (
/kick,/mute,/timeout,/modrecord,/slowmode,/starboard,/giveaway). - General โ everyone else. Can run all public commands (economy, games, profile, leveling, tickets).
Which individual commands require Mod vs. Admin is itself adjustable per server from the dashboard's Roles page โ see Dashboard.
