Swear Jar
Counts the swearing, marks the message with a reaction, and ranks both the words and the people using them.
How It Works
Every message is checked against the server's word list. A message that contains one gets a reaction, a ๐ซ by default or any emoji you like, and every hit in it is added to that member's tally. Saying the same word three times in one message counts three times, and a message using three different words counts all three.
Matching is on whole words and ignores case, so "class" isn't a swear and "Scunthorpe" survives. Punctuation packed around a word doesn't hide it.
This is a game, not moderation. Nothing is deleted, nobody is warned, and no punishment follows. If you want a word removed when it's used, that's AutoMod. The two lists are deliberately separate, because most servers want to count far more words than they want to delete.
The Word List
Aegis ships a starting list of the common ones. Two things you can do to it
- Add your own. Anything you like, including phrases. Not case sensitive.
- Drop any of Aegis's. Click one to take it out of play, click it again to put it back. Nothing is permanently deleted, so changing your mind costs nothing.
You can also name channels the jar ignores entirely: a venting channel, or somewhere the joke would wear thin.
Leaderboards
The swear jar is one board in /leaderboards with two pages, because it answers two different questions
- Words, which ones get used most, and how many different members use each.
- Members, who has put the most in, and the word each one reaches for most.
The same two lists are on the dashboard page. Like every other leaderboard, each is a top ten.
Emptying the Jar
One button on the dashboard clears every tally for the server and keeps the word list. It takes two clicks and is recorded in the Settings Audit Log. A member's own tally also goes when their data is erased from Erasing a Member's Data, alongside their XP and level card.
