Simple View

The Leveling page has two views. Simple holds what a server needs to switch leveling on: the XP source toggles, announcements to a channel you name, the no-XP channel and role lists, role rewards that replace the last one, and the leaderboard. XP rates, the multiplier lists, the level-up message, Level Card Settings and the sticky and auto leaderboard posts are under Advanced. A server whose settings don't already match Simple opens in Advanced instead, which includes one that has never configured leveling. The view is remembered per page and per server, so putting Leveling on Advanced leaves your other pages and your other servers where you left them.

Simple is a description of what the server does, not just a shorter page, so switching to it changes settings as well as hiding them: announcements are turned on and sent to a named channel rather than wherever the member leveled up, announcing only on a role reward is turned off, role rewards are set to replace, a custom level-up message is cleared, and the level card goes back to the Aegis colors and background. It lists whatever it would change before you confirm, and stages all of it on the save bar, so Save applies it and Reset puts it back.

๐Ÿ’ก

The page stays editable with the level system switched off, so a server can be set up in full before leveling is switched on. Editing while it is off shows a reminder that the switch at the top of the page is still off.

XP & Levels

Levels use a fixed curve. Each level needs progressively more XP than the last

LevelXP to reach next levelTotal XP to reach it
1155100
2220255
3295475
54751,150
101,1004,675

XP Sources

Each can be turned on/off separately, and each is tracked on your level card

SourceAmountCooldownNotes
Chat15โ€“25 XP per message (random)60 seconds per userBots excluded
Voice10 XP per minute60-second tick, plus a final partial-minute payout on leavingNeeds 2+ humans in the channel; deafened members earn nothing, and muted members stop at the mute cutoff. Self and server mute/deafen count the same
Reaction5โ€“10 XP per reaction (random)30 seconds per reactorโ†’author pairAwarded to both the reactor and the message author; self-reactions and bot reactors don't count
CommandSame as ChatShares the Chat cooldownOff by default. Slash commands only, so buttons and menus inside a command earn nothing

Command XP is an opt-in extra rather than a fourth source. It pays exactly what a message would, on the same cooldown, and counts toward the same Chat XP total on the level card, so running a command right after chatting earns nothing extra, and spamming commands is capped the same way spamming messages is. Only the slash command itself pays out: paging through a menu, casting in /fishing, or clicking any button afterwards adds nothing, so a feature with a lot of clicks isn't worth more XP than one with a few.

Multipliers

Two lists stack multiplicatively with each other and with any active vote/shop XP boost: role multipliers (e.g. a 2ร— "Supporter" role) and channel multipliers (e.g. 0.5ร— in an off-topic channel). If a member matches multiple role multipliers, whichever deviates furthest from 1ร— wins.

XP-exempt channels and XP-exempt roles block earning entirely (every source, including Command XP) rather than just reducing the rate.

Timed-out members earn nothing from any source for the length of the timeout. This matters most in voice, since a timeout mutes someone without removing them from the channel.

Level-Up Announcements

Post to a dedicated channel, or directly in whatever channel the member was chatting in. Message supports {user} {username} {level} {server}. "Only announce role rewards" limits announcements to level-ups that actually grant a new role, while XP/levels still apply silently the rest of the time.

Role Rewards

Assign roles per level from the dashboard. Two modes

Whether a leaving member's XP is wiped or preserved is set under Data Retention on the Member Data page, together with currency and fishing. There is a second setting there for whether members who have left stay listed on the leaderboard.

Leaderboards

/leaderboards is the one place every board in the server lives, behind a dropdown, twenty per page and up to five pages with Prev/Next buttons. It posts publicly so the channel can read it, but only the person who ran it can page it or switch board; anyone else is told to run their own. A board whose feature is switched off still appears in the dropdown, described as "Not enabled in this server", so you can see what the server has without hunting for it. It is the only leaderboard command. XP and starboard no longer have their own, since every board they showed is a page here. None of this affects the sticky or auto leaderboards, which stay XP-only.

BoardRanked on
Levels & XPXP earned
CurrencyWallet plus bank
Fish SoldFish sold, with what they fetched alongside
Messages SentMessages posted
Reactions LeftReactions added to other people's messages
Voice HoursTime spent in voice channels
InvitesMembers brought in, all time
StarboardStars earned across starred posts

Messages, reactions and voice time are plain counts, tracked whether or not leveling is switched on. They are deliberately not the same as chat, reaction and voice XP: XP is shaped by cooldowns, per-server rates and multiplier roles, so it answers who earned the most rather than who actually sent the most.

Every board labels members by the last name Aegis saw on them, so a member who has left still reads as themselves rather than "Left server" with an anonymous score. The name is recorded whenever they appear on a board and again as they leave, which is the last moment it can be read. Anything Aegis genuinely can't name (someone who left before it ever saw them) is left off the board entirely rather than shown as a blank rank.

Beyond the on-demand boards, two optional automatic modes exist, configurable independently

ModeBehavior
Sticky LeaderboardReposts one pinned top-20 embed every time someone levels up, so it's always the newest message
Auto LeaderboardEdits one message on a fixed timer (default every 5 minutes) regardless of level-up activity

Level Card

Shows avatar, display name, level, rank, an XP progress bar toward the next level, the level-reward role they have earned (shown in that role's own color), and a 4-stat row of Total/Chat/Voice/React XP. The card is drawn on Aegis artwork, which carries its own border, and everything sits inside that artwork’s opening: the avatar top left with the name and @username beside it, level and rank in the top right corner with the reward role under them, the XP bar across the full width with the XP figures and the percentage above its two ends, and the stat row along the bottom under a divider the same width as the bar. The card is the Aegis default unless an admin sets the server's own colors and background in Level Card Settings on the dashboard. Border color sets the avatar ring, the XP bar and the divider rather than drawing a border of its own, and a background fills the artwork’s opening rather than covering it. Color fields accept a hex code with or without the leading #.

Backgrounds support animated GIFs, and Aegis renders a genuinely animated card, not just a static frame. Send one from Discord's built-in GIF picker, paste almost any direct image or GIF link (Discord CDN, Tenor, Giphy, and most other hosts all work), or upload a file directly. Uploads can be up to 8MB and 1920ร—1080 (larger images auto-resize); very long or high-frame-count GIFs may fall back to a static image if they're too heavy to animate.

A card nobody has customized is the artwork and the numbers. Nothing is laid over it. That also keeps the most common card in the server fast, since it renders straight to a PNG instead of queueing a multi-frame GIF encode. Set an animated GIF as the server's background and it still animates normally.

Level Card Settings sits under Advanced on the Leveling page. Its preview draws itself whenever a color or the background changes, animated, so a GIF background is shown the way it will really look rather than as a still frame. It waits for a pause in typing instead of rendering on every keystroke.

Reset to Aegis defaults, in Level Card Settings on the dashboard, puts every color and the background image back at once. It stages like any other change on the page, so Save applies it and Reset undoes it. Switching the page to Simple puts the same defaults back, since Simple does not show these settings.

Importing Existing Levels

The dashboard supports importing level data from MEE6 or a generic CSV/JSON format, and manually setting/adding/removing/resetting an individual member's XP.
